Note that Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is not available to undocumented children.

Emergency Medical Care

Emergency Medicaid (EM) is a program that provides medical coverage for uninsured individuals who have experienced a medical emergency. It's available to people who don't qualify for Medicaid due to their immigration status.

Services: Medical care and services for serious health issues that require immediate medical attention. Conditions like heart attacks, severe pain, and labor and delivery

Healthy Pregnancy Program

Provides immediate, presumptive Medicaid coverage for pregnant individuals, with no SSN or immigration proof required for initial eligibility. Iowa uses federal CHIP funds, specifically the From-Conception-to-End-of-Pregnancy option, to cover prenatal care for undocumented pregnant people. Iowa law extends full-scope medical services and 12 months of postpartum care for pregnant individuals, regardless of their immigration status.
